West Midlands Trains pledges support to Birmingham Games

West Midlands Trains has pledged its support to making the Birmingham Commonwealth Games the ‘best ever’.

The train operator’s managing director, Jan Chaudhry-van der Velde says both the West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway networks are ready to play their full part in bringing people to Birmingham and moving them to sporting venues across the region.

Jan explained “By the time the games come to Birmingham almost £1 billion will have been invested in improving rail services. This means we will have new trains and more capacity to move more people than ever before.

"This really is our region’s time to shine. I have written to Mayor Andy Street and Councillor Ian Ward congratulating the Commonwealth Bid team on bringing this global world sporting event to Birmingham. I have told them that we are ready to do all that we can to make 2022 a great success and we are committed to giving rail passengers a seamless, convenient and value for money journey when they travel to the games on our trains.”
