Disruption between Birmingham and Coventry
Rail services between Coventry and Birmingham are expected to be disrupted for the remainder of today ( Friday 9 August).
Network Rail engineers are repairing 40 metres of overhead cables in a tunnel near Tile Hill. The power cables came down at the start of this morning's commuter services.
London Northwestern and West Midland Railway trains are unable to run between the two cities until the line has been repaired . The current estimate is that the route will be reopened around 1630 today, subject to no further damage being discovered.
Francis Thomas, head of Corporate affairs for the two train operators said, "We are sorry for today's disruption. There will be a limited evening peak service between Birmingham and Coventry. As trains and train crew have been displaced by the disruption, further alterations to services can be expected for the remainder of the day.
"We are encouraging anyone who has had their journey delayed by 15 minutes or more to claim compensation. Details can be found on both of our websites."

The West Midlands Trains franchise started on 10 December 2017 and will run until 2025/26.
West Midlands Trains operates 1,300 services a day, manages 150 stations and provides over 70 million passenger journeys a year. Over the course of the franchise, West Midlands Trains will be investing £1 billion into the rail network to deliver new trains, improved routes and station upgrades. This will include 400 new train carriages across the network and space for an extra 85,000 passengers into Birmingham and London at peak times.
The franchise is a joint venture between Abellio (70.1% share) and East Japan Railway Company / Mitsui & Co., Ltd (29.9% share in a 50:50 split). Abellio is the international passenger transport subsidiary of the Dutch national railway company, Nederlandse Spoorwegen.
