Press release -
Do not travel – floods making railways impassable
Local train operators are advising passengers not to travel this evening. Flooding across the West Midlands has made many rail lines impassable.
Flooding is affecting signalling on routes including the Cross City line between Redditch and Lichfield, the Walsall area, Langley Green, the Jewellery Quarter. Trains have also been unable to call at Rugby station due to flooding but the station has now reopened.
A spokesman for West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway said “With rail improvement works taking place across the region this weekend affecting major routes, including the line between Birmingham and Coventry, travel options were already limited. The severe weather is also affecting road travel making it difficult to arrange bus replacement services. Heavy rains and flooding will affect the West Midlands network for the rest of the day so the advice is not to travel.”
Rail tickets are being accepted by National Express West Midlands buses via any reasonable route.
London Northwestern Railway and West Midlands Railway are encouraging passengers delayed by 15 minutes or more to claim compensation via the operators’ websites or by picking up a leaflet at staffed stations.
