Press release —
London Northwestern Railway: Essential travel only warning extended to Friday amid ongoing heatwave
London Northwestern Railway passengers are again being asked to only travel if their journey is absolutely necessary amid the ongoing heatwave.
LNR has confirmed it will continue operating a reduced timetable on many routes tomorrow (Friday 26 June) due to the continuing high temperatures.
Extreme heat can cause rails to expand and buckle so when temperatures reach certain thresholds, trains must run more slowly to keep services safe.
Routes with reduced service levels today and tomorrow include:
- Birmingham New Street - London Euston
- Birmingham New Street - Liverpool Lime Street
- Tring - London Euston
Jonny Wiseman, LNR customer experience and commercial director, said: "With the ongoing heatwave continuing to cause significant disruption to rail services, we are again asking our customers to only travel on Friday if their journey is essential.
"Customers holding tickets for travel can use them on any day up until next Tuesday, or return them to their place of purchase for a full refund."
Latest travel information, including advice on refunds and ticket easements, is available on www.lnr.uk/heatwave
