Press release -
London Northwestern Railway thanks generous Watford Junction passengers for Christmas present donations
Rail bosses have thanked passengers at Watford Junction after generous travellers donated presents worth hundreds of pounds to local children’s charities in time for Christmas.
All through December station operator London Northwestern Railway has invited passengers to donate on the station concourse and staff have been overwhelmed by the generosity shown.
The scheme is part of Watford Football Club’s “Christmas Toy Drive” and Hornets legend Richard Johnson, who made 242 appearances for the club, visited the station this week to collect the toys.
The presents will be distributed among charitable groups in the Watford area and underprivileged local children to make their Christmases extra special.
Amanda Noonan, duty station manager, said: “As the operator of Watford Junction we are proud to play our part in the community and this was a great chance for the whole station team to help our customers support a great cause.
“We were delighted to work with Watford Football Club and welcome Richard Johnson to the station to celebrate the generosity of our passengers at the end of such a difficult year.”
Alex Ashby, events manager at Watford FC, said: "We have been overwhelmed with the number of gifts received and generosity people have shown despite it being an incredibly challenging year for everyone.
"These presents will be delivered around the community to children and families who are finding things tougher than normal at the moment, including gift drops to schools, hospices, children’s hospital wards and many more local charitable organisations.
"It is because of the incredible generosity of the Watford community that we are able to allow these children to still be able to experience the happiness of receiving a present at Christmas."
The Toy Drive campaign is run in association with Elton House Care Home and is supported by the Watford FC CSE Trust.
