London Northwestern Railway: Train service between Birmingham and Liverpool to double under major timetable change

Rail passengers travelling between Birmingham and Liverpool will soon benefit from more frequent trains under a major timetable change from London Northwestern Railway (LNR).

Currently, just one LNR train per hour connects the two cities for the majority of the day, with additional services at peak times. However, with passenger numbers continuing to rise, LNR is now introducing a second service throughout the day.

The additional services, which will make thousands of extra seats available for passengers every weekday, are being introduced under the new LNR timetable, which comes into effect from Sunday 15 December.

Jonny Wiseman, customer experience director for LNR, said: “In response to growing numbers of passengers using our services between Birmingham and Liverpool, we are delighted to double our off-peak services on the route. We look forward to welcoming more passengers onto our trains from December.”

The additional service will call at Birmingham New Street, Coseley, Penkridge, Stafford, Crewe, Runcorn, Liverpool South Parkway, Mossley Hill and Liverpool Lime Street.

All rail passengers are encouraged to check their journeys as new departure times will apply on many routes across the region. The changes come as part of the twice-yearly rail industry timetable change.

The new timetables are available to view at www.lnr.uk/timetables
