Northamptonshire train guard awarded British Empire Medal

A train guard from Northamptonshire is celebrating after being awarded the British Empire Medal for his commitment to charity and volunteer work.

London Northwestern Railway senior conductor Robert Moore was commended in the 2021 New Year Honours list for services to the community.

Robert, from Corby, has worked on the railway for five years and volunteers as an assistant scout leader with the Sywell Air Scout Group in Northamptonshire in his spare time.

The 38-year-old has also helped to establish a search and rescue team, teaches first aid through the British Heart Foundation and volunteers as a steward at his local football club.

Robert said: "Following an incredibly difficult year for so many people it was humbling and a huge surprise to be recognised in this way for working with my local community.

"So many people have gone the extra mile over the past nine months and I know there are many out there who have done more than I have and I would pay tribute to them for their dedication."

Robert will receive his medal from the Lord-Lieutenant of Northamptonshire at a formal presentation ceremony on a date yet to be set.
