Rail passengers advised to check travel over festive period

London Northwestern Railway (LNR) passengers are being reminded to check journey planners before travelling over the festive period.

Due to Christmas markets, amended timetables and rail infrastructure upgrades, services are expected to be busier than usual across the railway network.

LNR will be operating an amended timetable, with no trains running on Christmas Day and Boxing Day and train services finishing earlier than usual on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

Additionally, essential upgrades to the tracks near Milton Keynes are taking place from 27 Dec – 5 Jan. This will impact journeys to and from London Euston, with some services operated by rail replacement buses.

Jonny Wiseman, LNR customer experience director, said: “We’re encouraging passengers travelling over Christmas to plan their journeys in advance. Due to engineering works, rail replacement buses may be in operation for certain routes, so make sure to check journey planners and ensure you leave plenty of time to travel.”

Gary Walsh, director for Network Rail’s West Coast South route, said: “We know Christmas is a special time for families and friends, and we want everyone to get where they need to be as smoothly as possible. With major improvement works taking place on the West Coast Main Line near Milton Keynes from the afternoon of 24 December until 5 January, it’s important to plan ahead. Our advice for anyone planning to travel between London and Scotland this Christmas is to plan your journeys as early as possible."
