West Midlands Railway: Cross City North line closed for four days after Easter

Passengers travelling with West Midlands Railway (WMR) are being reminded that the Cross City North line between Lichfield Trent Valley/Four Oaks and Birmingham New Street will be closed for four days after Easter due to engineering works.

Network Rail is delivering essential engineering works from Tuesday 2 April until Friday 5 April inclusive. Rail replacement will be in operation on Tuesday 2 April, Wednesday 3 April and Thursday 4 April.

As a result of members from train driver union ASLEF announcing their intention to stage strike action on Friday 5 April, services will not operate on any WMR route and a rail replacement will not be in operation on the Cross City line.

WMR services will also be subject to disruption on Thursday 4 April, Saturday 6 April, Monday 8 April and Tuesday 9 April as a result of members from ASLEF announcing their intention to stage industrial action in the form of an overtime ban.

Jonny Wiseman, WMR customer experience director, said:

“I would like to thank passengers for their patience as Network Rail will be carrying out crucial engineering works between Birmingham New Street and Lichfield Trent Valley after Easter.

“Rail replacement services will be in operation from Tuesday 2 April until Thursday 4 April inclusive. Rail replacement will not be in operation on Friday 5 April as a result of industrial action and passengers will need to use alternative modes of transport.”

More information on the closure and engineering works is available here.
