Workers, sports fans, concert goers, theatre buffs and shoppers will all benefit from later evening services when West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway introduce new timetables this May. More frequent evening services and later last trains are part of a range of service improvements being introduced by the train operators.
The steel framework for phase one of City of Wolverhampton’s new railway station building is close to completion. Contractors Galliford Try finished laying the foundations in February, following the demolition of the former British Transport Police building, and a small section of the current station building next to Platform one.
Significant progress has been made on the redevelopment of Kidderminster station, since work started earlier this year. So far, work has focussed on the forecourt at the front of the station, which is currently fenced off. Once this stage of the redevelopment is complete, it will revert to being used as a passenger drop off area and taxi rank.
West Midlands Railway is offering an exclusive treat for mums, with free travel this Mother’s Day (31 March). The train operator is offering a special ‘Mums Go Free’ ticket, to give complimentary train travel to mums across the West Midlands rail network.

Striking new images of a radical yet respectful transformation of Birmingham Moor Street station have been revealed by West Midlands Rail Executive, as part of proposals for an ambitious redevelopment to create a station that’s fit for the future, linking seamlessly with Birmingham New Street and HS2 services at Curzon Street.
Passengers are being reminded that a £1.5m package of improvements is to ramp up at Stratford-upon-Avon station. From Monday 18 March, Network Rail, West Midlands Railway and Warwickshire County Council will increase work at the Warwickshire station to deliver a range of upgrades. These will include new waiting and seating areas, better retail facilities, accessible toilets, and cycle racks.

The train operator is hosting a special Rail and Business Breakfast in Wolverhampton, on Wednesday 20 March, to outline a range a commercial opportunities arising from changes to train services this Spring.
London Northwestern Railway and West Midlands Railway staff from across the rail network are donating old uniforms to The Salvation Army. Staff working at stations, on trains and at depots across the local rail network have been getting involved in a project to hand over redundant items of clothing to the charity.
Commuters and leisure travellers between Northampton and London Euston will benefit from a range of improvements this May, with the introduction of the new London Northwestern Railway timetable. The train operator is introducing a range of changes from 19 May, with more peak time services, increased capacity, and earlier and later departures from London Euston throughout the week.
Rail passengers across Worcestershire, Hereford and South Staffordshire will benefit from additional services and later services operating from May. West Midlands Railway is introducing a new timetable from 19 May, with enhanced weekday evening timetables for travellers to and from Birmingham’s railway stations.
Rail passengers across the North West will benefit from new direct services and quicker journey times from May. London Northwestern Railway is introducing a new timetable from 19 May, with new direct services to more destinations and additional carriages on some London-bound services from Crewe.
