West Midlands Railway: Worcestershire railway stations in full bloom thanks to local volunteer groups
Two Worcestershire railway stations have been given a summer makeover with new collections of vibrant floral displays, thanks to West Midlands Railway (WMR) volunteers.
All-new flower arrangements can now be found at Kidderminster and Droitwich Spa stations, following funding granted through WMR’s station adoption fund.
At Kidderminster, the new displays were planted by the Kidderminster Mainline Station Adoption Group, which is made up of ten volunteers from the Wyre Forest & District University of the Third Age (u3a).
In Droitwich, the planting was carried out by Friends of Droitwich Spa, who aim to enhance biodiversity through their projects.
Station adopters are volunteers who lend a helping hand at their local station to keep it well maintained. Their projects can include gardening, painting and installing artwork or information boards. WMR and sister-brand London Northwestern Railway (LNR) jointly have over 440 volunteers across its network of 155 stations.
Shantel Carty, community engagement manager at WMR, said: “The new displays in Kidderminster and Droitwich are beautiful and really brighten up the two stations. Our station adopters work really hard to make stations more welcoming for the local community and we hope passengers enjoy the flowers as they travel through.”
